Which Type Of Heating Oil Do I Need?

The first thing you should check is which type of heating oil is required to heat your home. This can usually be found by looking at the label on your boiler. Most commonly you’ll find that it will say Kerosene/Heating Oil however, red diesel can also be used in some boilers.

Checking The Size Of Your Tank

The capacity of your tank should also appear on a label on your tank, usually placed on the front or side of the tank. You’ll find that most tank capacity range from 650 litres - 2000l however, bigger tanks can be found in larger properties.

Checking Your Oil Levels

To know how much oil you need to order you will have to check the levels of your tank.

You may have a tank oil gauge which allows you to check the levels of your tank from your home - if not you will need to do the old trusted method of using a dipstick. Simply lower the stick into the tank and check where the fuel line stops/marks on the stick.

How Can I Avoid Running Out?

Unlike gas or electricity, heating oil is off the grid. This means you will have to continually monitor your fuel levels and arrange deliveries to ensure your home is heated.
