What is low-SAPS Engine Oil?

Low-SAPS Engine oil is an oil that has a low content of ash levels created from the burning of sulphated ash, phosphorous and sulphur which the acronym SAPS refer to. Different vehicle manufacturers can use different types of Low - SAPS Oils with different ACEA C Ratings, which can be found in your vehicle’s handbook.

Different SAPS oils include:

  • C1 Low SAPS - 0.5% Ash - Fuel Efficient

  • C2 Low SAPS 0.8% Ash - Higher performance, fuel-efficient

  • c3 Low SAPS 0.8% Ash Higher Performance, less fuel-efficient

Why Is Low SAPS Oil Used?

Low-SAPS Engine oil is used to reduce deposits left from burning of the oil. These can build up leading to a blocked diesel particulate filter. A blocked DPF can impact vehicles performance/efficiency and increase emissions. Deposits may also form on internal engine parts which can damage the engine.
